Shaaban Al-Dalou, a young man from Gaza, was burned alive by the fires of Israeli genocide.
Shaaban Al-Dalou: A Young Man from Gaza Burned Alive by the Flames of Israeli Atrocities
The name Shaaban Al-Dalou spread widely across social media platforms after flames consumed his body alive inside his tent at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, following an Israeli drone strike that targeted the tents of displaced people at dawn on Monday.
Shaaban Al-Dalou, 20, a displaced young man from Gaza City, was seen raising his hand as he burned—pleading for help—during one of the darkest nights Deir al-Balah had witnessed since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023. Those around him were powerless to help, unable to approach because of the intensity of the flames and the lack of equipment needed to extinguish the massive fire.
The blaze devoured a wide area of tents sheltering displaced families within the hospital grounds, burning four displaced Palestinians to death—including Shaaban and his mother—and injuring more than 40 others with burns and wounds, according to a statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
At dawn on Monday, displaced families sheltering inside Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital awoke to the sounds of deafening explosions and raging fires tearing through their tents. Panic and terror spread among the patients, displaced people, medical staff, and journalists present at the site.
The Israeli army admitted to bombing the tents of displaced civilians at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, claiming that Hamas fighters were present in the area. Hamas, however, has repeatedly denied similar Israeli allegations that its members use schools, hospitals, or other civilian facilities for military purposes.
Shaaban Al-Dalou’s Brother: I Watched My Mother and Brother Burn Before My Eyes
Shaaban Al-Dalou, a young software engineering student, had just begun taking his first steps toward achieving his dream of becoming an engineer. He lived a life full of challenges and hopes, but it was cut short when he became one of the victims of the Israeli genocide.
His younger brother told Anadolu Agency, struggling to hide his grief over the loss of both his brother and mother:
“My brother Shaaban was my support, my friend, my companion through everything. Losing him wasn’t easy—especially since he had already suffered a minor injury a week earlier when Israeli forces bombed the mosque across from Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.”
Recalling that tragic night, he said:
“At 1:30 a.m. local time, the tent where my brother and mother were sleeping was hit. I was in the neighboring tent. I woke up to horrors I had never seen before—and I couldn’t do anything.”
With tears streaming down his face, he added:
“I saw my mother and brother burning before my eyes, and I couldn’t save them.”
